Location: South Kensington, London Job Summary: The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to carry out research in the area of Process Systems Engineering. The broad objective of the research project is to pioneer a sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective oligonucleotide assembly method in aqueous media. The position is a collaboration between the Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering, the start-up company Exactmer and the Micklefield Lab at the University of Manchester, funded by Innovate UK. The post holder will work under the supervision of Prof. Benoit Chachuat. Duties and responsibilities: You will investigate advanced digital modelling and decision-making to assess and optimise the technology. A particular emphasis will be on developing mechanistic and surrogate models of a process prototype, including the design of experimental campaigns, and the subsequent application of model-based analysis and optimisation methodologies to guide the design and operation of the technology, including the implementation and documentation of the digital tools. Essential requirements: Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in chemical engineering or another relevant topic. *Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £40,694 – £43,888 per annum. Further Information: The post is available for up to 24 months depending on funding, starting on or around 1 April 2024.
