The role: 

We are seeking a professional, motivated and proactive individual to support the Progression Team within Doctoral Services to develop and maintain appropriate business systems and services to support the Doctoral Student journey.

You will supervise Grade 4 administrators and support them in the operational running of  and work in collaboration with the wider Operations Team within Doctoral Services to provide expert knowledge and guidance in relation to doctoral degree policy, regulation and compliance in relation to doctoral student administration, with a focus on the Annual Progress Review process and changes to supervisory teams whilst also delivering excellent customer service and contributing to change initiatives. Building and maintaining strong and effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders at varying levels will be key to this role. 

 

About you: 

This opportunity will suit a proactive candidate with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. You will preferably possess experience of the postgraduate administrative environment, especially within an environment focussed on doctoral research and regulations as well as some experience of successful project delivery and have some practical understanding of supervising a team.  

The candidate will have a passion for implementing continuous improvements to business systems and processes to support the provision of outstanding customer service. 

Ideally you will have a demonstrable understanding of the UK academic research environment and student administration supported by a good understanding of the academic cycle and knowledge of the broad operational activities that underpin successful doctoral degrees support; however, we welcome transferable skills.  

 

About the Department 

Research and Innovation (R&I) is a Professional Services Directorate with responsibility for the central management and delivery of the University's R&I strategy. Made up of four departments; Research Development & Delivery, Research Environment & Impact, Doctoral Services and Business Engagement, staff work collaboratively to provide comprehensive support to faculties across the full breadth of research and business partnerships activities. 

The post holder will join the Doctoral Services' Progression Team, supporting the Research Degrees Student Manager to deliver high-quality administrative support for doctoral students.
