An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Economist to join a leading organisation in the financial sector. This role is perfect for an individual with a passion for influencing and contributing to the research and development of high-quality international financial reporting standards. The successful candidate will be part of a project aimed at endorsing an accounting standard in the UK, conducting assessments of costs and benefits to businesses, as well as wider economic effects. This role offers a unique chance to provide thought-leadership, undertake research, and contribute to the development of financial reporting internationally.

Responsibilities of the Interim Research Economist

As a Research Economist, you will play a crucial role in contributing to a project aimed at endorsing an accounting standard in the UK. You will be involved in developing and distributing surveys, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting data analysis. Your work will directly influence the development of international financial reporting standards, making this role both challenging and rewarding. With your expertise, you will assist in estimating market-wide costs for preparers and potentially create a cost of capital model. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values collaboration and innovation.

  • Provide input into the development of two surveys aimed at collecting data for a cost/benefit analysis.
  • Assist with the distribution of the two surveys.
  • Engage with stakeholders to bolster the quantitative survey results.
  • Support the economics team leader in the analysis of the survey data and in the estimation of market-wide costs for preparers.
  • Assist with other tasks including creation of a cost of capital model, estimation of direct benefits for users, and baseline costs for preparers.

What the successful candidate will bring

The ideal candidate for this Research Economist position will bring a wealth of knowledge from their master's degree in economics or finance or relevant professional qualification in accounting. Your experience conducting surveys and administering questionnaires will be invaluable in this role. Your understanding of capital markets, particularly UK capital markets, will enable you to make significant contributions to our projects. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to effectively engage with stakeholders and present your findings. Your ability to work as part of a team and deliver to tight deadlines will ensure your success in this role.

  • Master's degree in economics or finance or relevant professional qualification in accounting.
  • Experience in industry research (consulting, government, NGOs) or academia.
  • Experience conducting surveys and administering questionnaires.
  • Knowledge and understanding of capital markets. Knowledge of UK capital markets would be considered an advantage.
  • Good written and oral communication skills. Report writing skills would be considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and deliver to tight deadlines.
