Research positions on “ENgIneerinG MAterial properties with advanced laser direct writing — ENIGMA” We are excited to invite applications for postdoctoral research positions as follows: Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow (level 4/5) Salary Range: £34,980-£51,283 The positions will be based in the Optoelectronic Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton and are available through a research programme sponsored by the European Research Council. The posts are available on a fixed term basis until 31/12/2025. ENIGMA seeks to exceed the frontiers of ultrafast laser material processing, harnessing few-cycle laser pulses (FCLPs) to engineer materials with revolutionary optical and electronic properties. This project will explore the fundamentals and applications of intense interaction between ultra-short light pulses and matter, synthesizing unique material phases for advanced photonic devices and advance long-term high-density data storage, high-resolution microscopy, consumer electronics, and high-power laser applications. We are looking for hands-on experimental scientists with the drive to solve difficult and challenging scientific and technological problems. We are looking for researchers with experience in one of the following fields:  ultrafast laser material processing (desirable),  femtosecond laser direct writing (essential) fundamentals of light-mater interactions (essential) nonlinear optics (essential) ultrafast optics including few-cycle pulses (essential)  micro- and nano-optics (desirable) optical engineering (desirable) Candidates will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics and Optical Engineering, along with a good track record of innovative research at an international level. Experience of highly effective working in teams is also required.
