SalaryApplications are invited for the post of Research Finance Officer within the Research Finance Services (RFS) team in the University's Finance and Procurement Directorate.
Two full time posts are available and are offered on a permanent basis. RFS provides research grant administrative support to the University's academic community, spanning the whole cycle from application support and approval, financial management, including audit, through to grant closure.
The post will focus primarily on the administration of research grant applications and awards, which includes responsibility for the costing and submission of research projects. The post-holder will offer professional advice on the interpretation of the terms and conditions of a wide range of non-commercial funding bodies, with a view to ensuring optimisation of eligible costs and the requested budget. The post-holder will also be responsible for post-award management of research grants including submission of claims and financial reporting.
We are looking for candidates with a financial background and experience in a similar role. This work demands day to day interaction with academic colleagues, external bodies and other administrative sections of the University. Excellent numerical, written and verbal communication skills are essential for the post, as is an ability to cope with a demanding and deadline driven workload. Precise record keeping and operation of a variety of software based systems, including electronic grant application and grant maintenance packages, will form a significant part of the successful candidate's activities. Applicants must therefore be skilled in the use of office IT and have the willingness to learn how to use new systems.
