Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Research Nurse. Please note - due to the payscale difference between the NHS and the University, this post would be suitable for a band 5 or band 6 NHS employed nurse, wanting to develop and expand their research skills. The role will involve working on translational and clinical research studies within the CRUK Cambridge Centre Urological Malignancies Programme. The post holder will provide the nursing support for our translational studies and clinical trials and will manage, with support, the clinical day to day running of studies, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Our main work centres around translational science studies, which obtain blood, tissue, stool and urine samples from patients with urological cancers (i.e. kidney, prostate and bladder), and provides them to our researchers to help us understand the mechanisms by which urological cancers arise, progress and evade detection. Our team is small and focused, with a busy daily schedule that means an ability to think on your feet and communicate effectively with a range of people is essential. You'll be responsible for consenting patients, obtaining samples, completing CRFs, entering data onto clinical research databases, and a range of other standard trials processes, and ensuring that your work is following best practice and complying with study protocols and relevant legislation, such as the Human Tissue Act. You should be a registered nurse. Previous oncology, urology, surgery, clinical trials experience, and/or translational research is desirable, but not essential. You will need the ability to work in a self-directed, independent and flexible manner, and enjoy working in a small team where members have a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Some out of hours working is required to collect and process samples from early morning and late running surgeries. The Urological Malignancies Programme is an important component part of the CRUK Cambridge Cancer Centre which is led by Professor Richard Gilbertson FRS. Led by Professor Grant Stewart and Dr Sarah Welsh, our members are working together to improve outcomes for patients with urological cancers. The CRUK Cambridge Centre is renowned nationally and internationally and benefits from a major commitment from Cancer Research UK, recognising Cambridge's position at the forefront of cancer research. Informal enquiries may be made to Mrs Angela Godoy, the Urological Malignancies Programme Manager in the first instance (alp80@cam.ac.uk). Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2027 in the first instance. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS (enhanced with adults' barred list). This appointment also requires NMC Registration and a Research Passport application. This is an integrated appointment between the University and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ("NHS Trust"). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Research Contract by the NHS Trust. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa. Please ensure that you upload a covering letter, CV and a completed Additional Information for Allied Health Professionals form in the Upload section of the online application. Please include details of your referees, (email address and phone number), one of which must be your most recent line manager. Closing date: 18th February 2024
