Job description

Job summary

The main objective of the Research Project Officer role within the Research Impact Management Office (RIMO) team is to provide the day-to-day delivery of project management activities for the smooth operation for the office and the team’s portfolio of Research Projects. The aim is to maximise the impact of projects through effective consortium and finance management, adhering to funder requirements, building, and implementing efficient project management processes. The post holder will play a key role in supporting a new $57m global Human Challenge Award co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The post holder will have the opportunity to be part of this and other exciting, collaborative Research Projects and successfully support academic colleagues and project consortia, as well as to support the overall operational management of RIMO.

The RIMO office is an integral part of Imperial’s Enterprise Department. Enterprise provides commercial and business management services to support the award and delivery of funded programmes and projects. The work of Enterprise directly underpins Imperial’s mission, thereby supporting the development of new or enhanced research, education and/or translation capabilities across all faculties of the university and on behalf of Imperial’s academic community. With a large portfolio of EU funded projects, RIMO has a specific focus on managing high-profile international projects funded by various grants and programmes.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work alongside other members of the RIMO team to provide efficient support on all project management and requirements for our portfolio of projects. You will deliver reporting and auditing processes as per funder requirements, help to develop research proposals and bids, liaise with project consortia and Imperial departments, process payments and monitor budgets, coordinate the organisation of meetings and events, participate in public outreach activities, and perform operational activities such as record management and minute-taking.

It will be important for you to interface with key academic staff, College supporting services staff as well as external partners from various project consortia. You will also support RIMO to engage and participate in Imperial-led activities and events.

Essential requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate who embraces change and adapts quickly to our variety of Research Projects and its demands. Some of the essential requirements are:

  • Project coordination experience, especially in a research environment.
  • Strong practical experience of financial and processes management.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills.
  • Experience of working in large and complex organisations, especially in higher education.
