Job description

The University of Surrey places the support and development of researchers at the heart of our research strategy. The Doctoral College team at the university provides a broad range of personal and professional development opportunities for doctoral researchers, working with internal and external stakeholders to create sector leading learning opportunities and the optimal research culture in which to build and launch a stellar career. To support this ambition, we are seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Researcher Development Training Officer to enhance our Researcher Development and Employability team. We are seeking someone who is creative and has exceptional planning, organisational and interpersonal skill to help shape and deliver a programme of development support for our postgraduate research community. As we continue to work to embed the Vitae Researcher Development Programme within our provision, we need a colleague with an understanding of a range of strategic issues and developments within research, the sector and beyond. The successful applicant will ideally have a doctoral-level qualification and relevant experience, and will be encouraged to bring a highly professional, proactive, and collaborative approach to the role, with strong communication and stakeholder engagement. You will join a collegiate team, with support to enhance your own professional development. If you have a passion for development, understand the context and challenges of postgraduate research studies, and enjoy working with postgraduate researchers to support their development and understanding, then we would welcome your application for this key role in our team. What we can offer In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part time employees), a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery. Further Information To apply please submit a CV. You will also be asked some brief questions to help us understand your suitability for the role. For more information about the role please contact Dr Ruan Elliott via r.m.elliott@surrey.ac.uk. Interviews will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 21st March 2024. The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all.  We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community.  Therefore we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
