Stanford Junior School is looking to appoint a skilled handyperson who will act as the caretaker for the school. We are looking for someone that is experienced in building maintenance and janitorial duties or someone with a trade who is willing and committed to learning these skills. The person should be passionate about working with the school and wider community to both improve the appearance of the building and experience for pupils, staff and visitors. Previous experience working in a school as a caretaker would be desirable but not essential.

About the role

The successful candidate will work alongside the school business manager in all aspects of building maintenance and carry out a range of duties to provide a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness. Duties will include key holder duties, cleaning and supervising cleaning staff, painting, general maintenance and repairs, completing risk assessments and all other aspects of health & safety and fire safety.

You should:

  • Be approachable and committed to providing a good standard of work;
  • Be able to work as directed and use own initiative when needed;
  • Be able to work both as a team or individually;
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Be flexible, reliable and willing to learn.

As this is a Residential Caretaker role you will be required to live in the caretaker’s house attached to the site and will be required to be flexible to complete tasks and attend site outside of your usual hours. These duties could include and are not limited to responding to alarms, unlocking and locking up at weekends, evenings and other general caretaking duties.

The School is a stunning Grade 2 listed building and is in need of someone who is passionate and can use their own initiative to restore it to its original beauty and ensure that it is safe and functional for it’s various stakeholders.
