Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
Tell me about the service and role
Ty Laura Short Breaks is a 5-bedded residential service which provides short breaks for children and young people aged 5-17 with complex health and or additional learning needs.
As a Residential Support Worker, you'll join the friendly team to provide overnight support to children and young people within the home and access the local community. At Ty Laura we see the individual and their capabilities not their disability.
You'll be a key role model to the people we support, whilst helping our young people to develop emotionally, socially, behaviourally and independently. Your role will also require you to attend training, team meetings and take part in supervisions during the day.
As part of your induction, we are committed to providing you with comprehensive training to enable you to support the young people. The training includes safe administration of medication, Team Teach, Manual handling, first aid and safeguarding as well as further training and access to extensive e-learning modules.
We will support you in registering with Social Care Wales and completion of the All Wales Induction Framework, as well as full on the job training with experienced members of the team, which includes a 2 week shadowing period.
Our goal is to equip you with the necessary tools to excel in your role and confidently carry out your responsibilities to provide the highest level of support to the young people who access the home.
You'll be working within a supportive team, with your Registered Manager, Team Leader, Residential Workers and fellow Residential Support Workers there every step of the way to guide and assist you.
We value collaboration and team work and we believe that together, we can create a positive and impactful environment.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
Getting involved in lots of fun activities both within the project and out in the community (concerts, bowling, local attractions, cinema).
Taking responsibility for the personal care and daily routines of the young people.
Supporting children and young people with personal care, communication, administration of medication and clinical procedures as and when required
Being responsible for the safeguarding of young people through accurate recording and reporting
Help young people to develop independence, personal hygiene, communication and behaviour regulation skills
Let's talk about you

Registration or willingness to register with Social Care Wales
Felxibilty to work shifts
Ideally; being a driver and having access to a car would be advantageous but we welcome applications from non-drivers also.

At Action for Children, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace by actively encouraging applications from Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic candidates and people with disabilities, as they are under-represented within Action for Children. We want to take deliberate and meaningful action to ensure fair opportunity to all groups in our communities and for AFC.
Don't meet every single requirement? If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with the job description, we'd love you to apply anyway. You might just be the perfect person for this role, or another role within the Action for Children family.
