Vulnerable children in the UK need your help

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

We're very excited to be embarking on the creation of a brand-new residential home, Star House, based in Inverclyde. This will be a tailored service providing 2:1 care of our young person with complex needs in a carefully crafted environment which revolves around providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive space that caters specifically to meet the needs of the young resident.

Star House has been designed to promote independence and comfort, with specialised features such as adaptive technology, sensory-friendly spaces, and customized amenities that promote both physical and emotional well-being.

We're looking to recruit a dedicated team of highly trained Residential Workers who'll ensure round-the-clock care and support is provided. This means that the people we're looking for, must be emotionally resilient enough to remain calm and compassionate at the times when it's needed most.

Within the home's warm and welcoming atmosphere, individualised care plans will be integrated into daily routines, allowing for a holistic approach to the resident's development. Education and recreational programs are tailored to his abilities and interests, creating an environment where growth and personal achievement are celebrated.

The 2:1 care model ensures that the resident receives not only the necessary medical attention but also emotional and social support, fostering a sense of belonging and connection. Family involvement is actively encouraged, creating a collaborative partnership between caregivers and loved ones to enhance the quality of life for the young resident.

In this innovative residential setting, the focus is not just on meeting the immediate needs of our young person but on cultivating an environment that empowers him to thrive and reach his full potential, setting the stage for a brighter and more fulfilling future.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Some key responsibilities for the role are;

  • Helping our young person in all aspects of their daily lives, including personal care.
  • Having good communication skills and the ability to engage well with our young person, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Being a creative thinker and having a solution focused approach.
  • Using your skills, knowledge and experience to meet the needs of our young person.

  • SVQ Level 3 Children and Young People or HNC in Social care/equivalent or a willingness to work towards gaining this qualification.
  • Experience of working with children/young people with disabilities and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of working in residential care setting and undertaking personal care as required.
  • Flexibility in working patterns to meet the needs of the service.
