Resilience Officer

Band 7 £46,244 to £53,789 per annum

Plus £1,279 Distant Islands Allowance per annum

37.5 Hours per Week
Permanent Post


Here in the Outer Hebrides, we face regular natural risks that come with island life off the North West coast of mainland Scotland, in addition to the risks and challenges of providing healthcare services.

On a daily basis we assess, identify, manage and remove or reduce emerging threats and actual events as we deliver high quality and reliable care and services to our population.

NHS Western Isles is currently seeking a Resilience Officer to join the team.

This post requires you to be proactive, flexible and able to respond to and prioritise emerging issues. You will be calm and comfortable with uncertainty and rapidly developing challenges. We are looking for someone with highly developed communication and reporting skills who is educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent and a member of the Emergency Planning Society and or Business Continuity Institute.

You will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for ensuring NHS Western Isles is capable of discharging its responsibilities for Emergency Planning as a Category 1 Responder as set out in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and associated supporting Guidance for Scotland.

You will provide specialist advice on Emergency Planning, Resilience, Business Continuity planning, Security and emerging issues to improve preparedness, response, communication, and co-ordination and learning across and throughout NHS Western Isles and to comply with national guidance and legislation.

The postholder will actively promote and assist in the assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Business Continuity Plans. You will develop and update Emergency Planning/Resilience policies and plans, provide support in response to emergency incidents and to develop and deliver training and exercising to enhance knowledge, procedures, and operational capacity and capability, in consultation with internal and external partners and participate in national work.

You will also be responsible for the development of effective systems and processes, developed in partnership, and in accordance with National Guidance and priorities that will influence and impact across and throughout Western Isles Health Board.
