About the GLA

The GLA plays a key role at the heart of London government and is responsible for policy and delivery across a range of areas that make a difference to those who live in, work in and visit the capital - this includes environment, transport, health, sport, planning, regeneration and culture.

Our Chief Officer is Mary Harpley. As the Head of the GLA's corporate leadership team, our Chief Officer assumes responsibility as Head of Paid Service for the strategic management of GLA activity and functions. The Chief Officer Directorate includes: People Function, Relocation and Transformation

The GLA has transformed its current Human Resources and Organisational Development function into a new People Function. As part of this transformation all volume recruitment activity will be delivered under a shared service with Transport for London. All Board and Executive recruitment will be retained within the GLA's People Function and this role will lead that activity.

About the role

Reporting to the Resourcing and EVP Specialist you will coordinate the provision of a comprehensive resourcing function in relation to Board and Executive roles to deliver effective recruitment and selection processes. The successful candidate for this role will also manage candidate onboarding liaising with colleagues at Transport for London to ensure onboarded appointees are set up on SAP HR in a timely fashion.

Confident with data you will also be responsible for the production of statistics associated with Board and Executive recruitment including analysis of diversity information, cost per hire and time to hire.

What your day will look like
  • Work in close partnership with very senior stakeholders (including the Mayor's Office) to provide professional and customer focused resourcing support for executive and board level appointments.
  • Provide expert advice on resourcing options, recruitment schedules and methods, job advertisements, application forms, selection processes (including assessment centres and testing), interview questions and appointment procedures.
  • Ensure that all pre-employment checks are robust, meet legal requirements and are in line with audit recommendations. For both Board and Executive level recruitment.
  • Responsible for ensuring the production of accurate and timely contractual documentation for new starters in these very senior roles.
  • Support the Strategic Resourcing and Talent Lead and Resourcing/EVP Lead in producing statistics on all aspects of Board and Executive resourcing processes to help inform strategic decision-making.
  • Build and maintain a robust record of current and past Board appointments, including paperwork issued by the Mayor's Office, right to work checks, Adverse Media and Social Media outcomes and more.
Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  1. Able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience, or CIPD qualified
  2. Experience of providing resourcing services for a public sector organisation.
  3. Experience of using applicant tracking systems, HR systems, Excel and Word to produce clear and concise recruitment materials, data and statistical information.
  4. Experience in recruitment, interview and advert writing
  5. Able to demonstrate ability to develop rapport and work effectively with a diverse range of people
  6. Able to communicate openly and inclusively with internal and external stakeholders.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
