About The Role
The Restorative Justice Officer plays a key role within Hounslow Youth Justice Service, with the successful applicant able to contribute their ideas and experience to shape the work undertaken with children and victims. You will passionate about working with and making a difference for the diverse community of children and young people in Hounslow. At the same time you’ll champion the needs of victims within the Youth Justice Service enabling restorative work to be undertaken wherever possible. You’ll identify and risk assess community-based reparation projects that enables children to undertake work in the community and supports them to learn new skills.
Working with children, victims, communities and families is never a 9-5 job, and the post requires the ability to work flexibly, including some evenings and occasional weekends. About The Team You’ll Be Working In
The aim of the Youth Justice Service (YJS) is to prevent offending by children and young people. The Team is made up of multi-agency professionals from the Police, the Probation Service, social work, Education and Health Service. The Team works with both children who have offended and those at risk of offending; the Team undertake assessments to better understand the reasons for any offending behaviour and the level of risk of each child’s risk of reoffending, risk to others and a child’s own safety and well-being.
The Youth Justice Service is co-located with other Teams undertaking work with adolescents, enabling close, collaborative work to be undertaken.
Role Profile
The key responsibilities of the role of Restorative Justice officer are:
- To contribute to the aims of preventing offending by children and young people, improving community safety and enhancing life prospects for children and their families by developing and supporting a range of community reparation projects and mediation interventions for children, the victims of their crime, and the wider community.
- To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in partnership with others agencies to provide a range of integrated Youth Justice Services for young people, families/carers, the Courts, and the victims of crime.
- To undertake all duties within the framework provided by the council and Departmental and Youth Justice Team policies and practice guidelines, Home Office standards, Youth Justice Board guidance and relevant legislation.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Has experience of working with victims and children who offend or may be at risk of offending.
- Understands the importance of prevention and desistance.
- Has a Child First approach to their work.
- Can form and sustain professional relationships.
- You want to make a difference to the lives of victims and children.
- You are inventive and creative.
- A self-starter who can work independently.
- You get things done.
Degree or equivalent level qualification, Youth Justice or any other professional qualification is desirable, as is any relatable experience within a Youth Justice Service.
