RETAIL TECHNICAL MANAGER (Maternity Cover)

Purpose of the Role
Fixed term Maternity Cover for 14 months. Reporting directly to the Site Technical Manager, acting as part of a hands-on technical team responsible for technical function of the retail packing department and leading the department QA team. You will provide support with customer complaint investigations, maintaining technical systems, hosting site visits and audits, as well as ensuring product is produced to high quality, customer standards and within safety, integrity, and legality requirements. Responsible for managing technical site projects to ensure full compliance.
Main duties include (but not limited to):
- Directly managing the department-based QA team and supervisory teams with strong leadership and direction.
- To drive a continuous improvement mindset and food safety and quality culture across site.
- Assume responsibility for the management of activities which ensure food safety, integrity, legality, and quality as well as deputizing for the site Technical Manager.
- Management of all internal and customer KPI reporting including weekly and monthly reports.
- Assisting the management team with their decision-making processes and owning the technical agenda.
- Building relationships with other departments to support a ‘single team’ approach.
- Be involved in managing day-to-day issues with the production teams. Have presence.
- Assisting in new product trials and providing feedback of any key challenges early in the process.
- Developing specific paperwork and procedures as needed in conjunction with the wider team.
- Is a key member of the HACCP Food Safety Plan and drives the Food Safety Culture on site.
- Lead site technical audits and visits in absence of the Site Technical Manager.
- Lead independent projects as and when the need arises, ensuring that all company, legislative, customer and third-party accreditation body standards are considered.
- Helps to develop ability across the site, fully understanding the processes and constraints, to continuously improve food safety, legality, and quality compliance across the site, in conjunction with other members of the operations team.
Requirements, experience, and person specification
- Essential: experience of FMCG manufacturing at a managerial level (preferably food related).
- HACCP L4 and Food Safety L4.
- Proven record of managing large teams – progression, empowerment, and growth.
- Management of quality systems – multiple retailer and food standards.
- Ability to interact with high profile customers and all levels of a business.
