Job Overview

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK.  We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students to secure better pay and conditions for the profession.

We are looking for an Employment Reward Lead to join our HR team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

In this newly created leadership role, the successful candidate will work closely with the Executive team and Directors to develop and implement pay and reward for all levels of the organisation.  This will support the creation and implementation of the People Strategy and business plan for HR.

This is a strategic position and the successful candidate will lead on pay and grading policy, employee benefits, recognition and employer pensions, providing expert advice and guidance to the Association. They will work closely with counterparts in the Department and with the Trade Union.

We’re looking for a specialist with proven expertise in pay and reward alongside the ability to build trusted relationships across the organisation.

This is a hybrid role and will involve a mix of working at BMA House and from home.

To be successful as the Employment Reward Lead you will:

  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent by experience in a HR or business related field (e.g. CIPD)
  • Demonstrate evidence of continued professional development in a relevant professional area
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of pay and reward strategies and experience of their context in a highly unionised environment.
  • Have experience in Executive remuneration issues approaches and policies
  • Have demonstrable experience of designing overall reward packages to attract, motivate and retain staff members
  • Use benchmarking, data and salary surveys to determine the reward for critical and scarce skill and talent mobility

You will be someone who can demonstrate:

  • Strategic thinking and taking a holistic perspective
  • Full understanding of HR metrics and measures and how to utilise them to make informed decisions
  • Strong relationship building, management & influencing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable collaboration with the ability to work with colleagues across the association
  • Personal resilience to balance competing priorities, manage diverse views and respond positively to changing environments and setbacks
