As part of our business-critical reporting, insight, and Assurance capability, you'll play a vital role in ensuring we provide clean, safe water to our customers while protecting the environment.

Working with colleagues from across the business and third-party providers like OFWAT, you'll help build a Risk and Assurance culture that improves our data's accuracy, reliability, and resilience. What you’ll be doing as a Risk and Assurance Specialist

  • To promote a Risk and Assurance culture across all contributors within the Leakage reporting process. Create a safe and constructive environment that encourages colleagues to report risks and concerns and to work together to solve problems.
  • To record and maintain the risk register and incident log. Working with colleagues across the business to understand the impact and consequences of risks and issues.
  • Prepare and present risks to senior managers, escalating concerns promptly and clearly.
  • To maintain a catalogue of controls and conduct periodic testing to assess their effectiveness. Working with business areas and risk owners to identify gaps and target areas of weakness.
  • To develop and embed standards and best practice procedures to improve resilience, consistency, and transparency of reporting.
  • Track and monitor internal and external audit actions.
  • Work with action owners to document and prepare commentary for year-end reporting.
  • Hybrid – Clearwater Court, Reading. You will be required to travel to Thames Water sites 1-3 days a month, but this may change in line with business requirements.
  • 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday ( we are open to full-time and part-time applications for this role)

This role does not require a driver's licence or access to a car.

What you should bring to the role

  • Degree education or professional qualification in risk management, Institute of Internal Auditors, or compliance.
  • Risk, assurance, internal audit, compliance background.
  • Ability to question and challenge constructively with all external and internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of producing audit and Assurance reports to provide to external auditors.
  • Knowledge of how to use Data processing and transformation tools – e.g. Power Query, Python, SQL.
  • Awareness of Statistical methods, Modelling, and forecasting.

  • Competitive salary from £41,600 per annum to £50,000 per annum.
