Skills we’re looking for

We are looking for a Risk and Issue Specialist who has significant knowledge and experience of Risk and Issue management within a complex organisation. The Risk and Issue Specialist is responsible for advising and supporting Senior Responsible Officers, Heads of Service, Programme and Project Managers on identifying, reporting and managing risks and Issues in line with the Risk Management Framework.

The Risk and Issue Specialist will train, coach and mentor colleagues involved in programme/project management,
you will have significant knowledge of programme/project methodology, leading activities to support the delivery of the Portfolio Change Plan and providing specialised analysis to Project Boards, Programme Review Boards and Senior leadership.

  • Extensive knowledge of best practice in risk management
  • Knowledge of a range of risk tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of assurance and control frameworks
  • Able to use a range of IT equipment and software to analyse information and produce intelligent and engaging reports.
  • Able to present complex and sensitive information to internal and external stakeholders, persuading and building buy-in at senior levels
  • Experience of working as the organisational subject matter expert on risk management, in an enterprise risk management environment, and with senior managers to gain buy-in
  • Significant experience of facilitating multidisciplinary risk workshops and quality assuring/reviewing risk registers/documentation

  • Significant experience of working within a Project Management Office environment, with understanding of key project outputs and processes e.g. project governance, business cases
  • Exercising judgement and independently managing work
  • Provision of effective and efficient advice on risks and Issues to Programme/Project Managers and senior leaders
  • Experience of senior stakeholder management, influencing collaborating and appropriately challenging leadership
  • Point of professional knowledge and expertise on Risk and Issue management across the organisation.
    Desirable criteria
  • Degree in relevant subject or significant equivalent experience in risk management and working within a formal project delivery environment
  • Risk management qualification (or willingness to work towards) e.g. International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management, Management of Risk Practitioner
  • Portfolio management and/or project management qualification e.g. PRINCE2, APM Project Management Qualification, P3O
