Job description

Do you want to play a crucial part in improving factory performance for an industry leading Rolling Stock giant? You will be the direct link between the Engineering function and Production deliverables identifying future problems, supporting tenders, and resolving production queries.
The Opportunity

Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting for a Rolling Stock Engineer for an industry leading Rolling Stock overhaul and maintenance business following a successful period of significant positive change and investment. As a centralised Rolling Stock Engineer, you will have a wide remit but ultimately be responsible for providing engineering expertise, ensuring production capabilities are enhanced and the factory becomes more efficient.
Location: Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Role and Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on managing the interface between production staff and engineering to ensure that the implementation of works is in line with the design intent.
  • Ensures the correct interpretation of drawings and technical instructions and takes the lead on communicating issues back and working in conjunction with the engineering team to resolve problems and issues.
  • Invests time daily in engaging with the shift operational team to understand production losses and issues, and work with them to resolve.
  • Uses industry standard problem-solving tools (Lean Manufacturing) to resolve issues.
  • Use data analysis to understand production losses.
  • Scopes out projects to tackle production losses & leads these to resolve the issues and lock in results.
  • Acts on production problems and AAW to provide clarity of instruction.

The Candidate

As a formally qualified Rolling Stock Engineer with a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering, you will be used to working in fast-paced and ever-changing environments. This role will heavily utilise your communication and problem-solving abilities, being the interface between the production staff on the shopfloor and engineering function as you ensure that work being completed is in line with the design intent.

Essentials

  • Formal qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering such as a degree, HNC or HND
  • Prior experience working in a Rolling Stock or rail environment.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
