Job description

The Schools are seeking to appoint an individual to have the main operational responsibility for building what we currently have into a functioning Dame Allan’s Boat Club over the next few years, building on the early work done at Dame Allan’s so that there is both wide participation and high performance opportunities for Dame Allan’s pupils in rowing. The wider aspects of the job also encompass the development of the Junior Squad at TURC, and the ability to take rowing out into the community, building on the contacts that already exist for this.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To oversee all rowing activity within the school as part of the Games department;
  • To build the identity of rowing as a sports community, driving the activity forward according to the development programme, using initiative and creative thinking to advance rowing at DA;
  • To manage links with TURC as our “host” club at present, including use of equipment, any additional coaching
  • hours we may need from them, and our relationship with them, alongside the Director of Sport, as DA rowing grows;
  • To run pre-school open rowing sessions in a morning, alongside our current Games teacher Mr Smith;
  • To coach classes as part of the PE and Games programme, both on site at Fenham and on the TURC site at the river Tyne;
  • To maintain and order DA rowing equipment as needed;
  • To accompany rowers to the river Tyne at the TURC site, and to other rowing events using School transport;
  • To provide on the water, ergo and tank coaching as required by the different groups;
  • To select and enter appropriate pupils for competitions - NJIRC / local schools competitions / DA pupil crews racing in local regattas under the auspices of TURC / national events as and when appropriate;
  • To increase rowing participation at all levels;
  • To signpost pupils to local rowing clubs, especially focusing on TURC, but also other clubs that works for them;
  • To ensure all rowing activity is conducted safely within GB Rowing guidelines and adhering to all DA policies;
  • To hold and operate a rowing budget within the overall Games department;
  • To plan and organise rowing events in consultation with the School’s calendar for the year, and to fit with all other co-curriculum activities in the week;

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £30,000.00 per year
