Pastoral and Safeguarding Manager required with effect from 15th April 2024 or as early as possible.
37 hours per week, full year.
Due to the retirement of the current post holder Westmorland Primary School seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner to this exciting and diverse role. It would be beneficial if the candidate had education/safeguarding background but not essential.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing all aspects of our very successful Safeguarding Team, managing our Pre-TAC and TAC process, managing CPOMs, including managing our expanding mentoring team and working with outside agencies to support families and their children from across the school, during times of need.
The successful candidate will need strong communication skills enabling them to work with a variety of partners, have patience, demonstrate resilience, strength of character and friendly determination, in working with some of our most vulnerable children and families and the agencies that work with them. The successful candidate will demonstrate dogged determination, honesty and professional curiosity to help support the outcomes for our families.
An ability to communicate effectively with agencies and Parents/Carers offering support and challenge is essential, as is keeping secure, accurate and confidential paperwork, producing concise written reports and action plans and ensuring that goals are met and families are supported. Being a good communicator is key.
As a trusted key member of the school’s senior team the successful candidate will keep the staff team fully informed, attend safeguarding training and become the lead DSL in school. The successful candidate will train new members of staff on in house safeguarding procedures and contribute to INSET keeping staff up to date with national developments.
The job is full time, full year role, though working hours will be compressed, so that term time only work is required on the whole. PPA will be allocated on site.
The successful candidate will lead and manage the experienced pastoral team; consisting of 2 learning mentors and a parent engagement officer. They will work closely with the Headteacher, senior staff and SENCO
Pastoral and Safeguarding Leader duties include:
- To be the first point of contact and liaison between families and other children’s agencies, such as children’s social care or child health.
- Manage the diaries of our own relate counsellor for parents and other services
- Organises, co-ordinate and lead host meetings including Pre-Team around the Child, Team around the Child and Team around the School. Attend Child Protection meetings and present information to Governors.
- To be friendly, helpful and welcoming to parents/carers and others visiting or those making contact with the school.
- To develop a professional relationship with parents/carers and agencies that are firm, fair, caring and friendly; at the same time as being able to hold people to account, always focusing on improving outcomes for the child.
- Attend core groups/strategy meetings and child protection conferences and reviews to present information on behalf of the school.
- Take the role of lead DSL in the absence of the Headteacher and ensure the highest standards of safeguarding are met throughout the school.
- Provide reports, both formal and informal, to SLT and governing body on pastoral issues such as attendance, child protection issues, children’s wellbeing and safeguarding
- Support the mentoring team with the completion of high quality EHA’s, to be completed well within the statutory timeframe, so that the TAC system can be set up swiftly.
- The successful candidate will understand their significant role with regard to improving pupil attendance, especially those PA children using data to inform next steps
- Having a professional curiosity and not being afraid to question and problem solve.
