Safeguarding Support Midwife

Imperial College Healthcare Trust are looking for an experienced midwife practitioner who is confident in their safeguarding knowledge and skills to join our small and established team. We are an integrated safeguarding team led by the Consultant Nurse for Safeguarding that covers; maternity, children's, adults, domestic abuse modern slavery as well as Autism and Learning Disability. Working alongside specialist colleagues in these fields leads to an exciting and supportive environment with lots of cross learning and teamwork. The trust has 2 A+Es of which one is a trauma centre that we work alongside particularly in relation to "think family" and contextual safeguarding. Based in Inner-London we support, assess and work with a very broad varierty of maternity safeguarding cases- certainly no two days are the same!
Based in the maternity safeguarding team, you will be part of a team that provides training, education, advice, and supervision. Currently the team is a Named Midwife with two band 7’s and one band 6 with admin support. The role will require you to work cross-sites at Queen Charlotte's and St Mary's hospital.
You will work as a member of the maternity safeguarding team. The team covers two
hospitals within the trust with approx 10.000 delivers a year combined across both
sites. Roughly 20% of all these women/pregnant people are known to the
safeguarding team. There are 3 vulnerable caseload teams who offer 1-2-1 care for the
women of highest priority whom we closely support alongside all other maternity
services.
You will be responsible for maintaining order in our busy inbox, including
categorising and answering emails, maintaining the referrals and outcomes
spreadsheet and escalating urgent messages to the safeguarding team. You will need
excellent IT skills and previous experience of spreadsheets is desirable. You will be
supported in undertaking chronologies and auditing as well as data analysis and
development needs of the maternity safeguarding team.
The role of the Safeguarding Support Midwife includes supervision, training, education
as well as liaising with our multiagency partners to ensure that robust plans are in
place for our most vulnerable babies. Alongside this you will directly support
midwives in the safeguarding of women and babies who are in-patients or under
maternity services or attending unscheduled care throughout the trust, as required.
