An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety Management Systems Manager to join the Nuclear Standards Team at Rolls-Royce Submarines Limited (RRSL). You will be responsible for overall co-ordination, maintenance, implementation and improvement of RRSL’s integrated Safety Management System (with support from Subject Matter Experts) to ensure compliance with company, legislative and regulatory safety requirements (nuclear, radiological and environmental).

What you will be doing:
You will be managing the maintenance of the Safety Management arrangements for all aspects of nuclear safety and radiological and environmental protection. You will also:

  • Identify improvements and, where appropriate, design a programme of work to deliver improvement in Safety Management arrangements. Provide technical guidance and intelligent customer oversight with support from Subject Matter Experts.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of Safety Management System documentation in response to legislative and regulatory changes as well as audit findings and organisational changes.
  • Monitor and assess Licence Condition compliance status and initiate and monitor improvement programmes and appropriate.
  • Participate and lead internal audits and support external audits.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for contribution to the wider business governance reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate and collaborate with cross functional teams to better understand and develop opportunities to streamline processes across RRSL and remove non-value add steps.
  • Act as the conscience for the business to ensure that we maintain the integrity of our systems and processes on safety arrangements.
  • Lead and coach others in the application of the Safety Management arrangements.
  • Act as the delegate for the Head of Nuclear Standards as required. May lead a team of safety professionals.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Strong history of successful management, maintenance and implementation of Safety Management Systems and supporting assurance activities.
  • Experience of working on nuclear licensed sites or a highly regulated organisation in a role supporting Safety Management Systems.
  • Strong influencing skills in a highly technical/highly regulated environment. The ability to build and maintain good relationships across the business is a key requirement.
  • Good project management, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Advanced IT skills with extensive use of Microsoft office applications.
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and/or previous experience in a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a complex organisation where cross business/functional interaction is paramount.
  • High level of Nuclear Licence Condition knowledge is required.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
