JOB TITLE:Safety Support Manager

REPORTS TO: Head of Shore Support & Logistics

VACANCY REF: 2438-SB

CONTRACT: Temporary for 6 months

RATE OF PAY: £48,000 - £52,000 per annum (Manager Grade 2)

LOCATION: Gourock (Faulds Park), Ship Repair yards & Network Travel

HOURS PER WEEK: 37.5 hours per week

ROLE OVERVIEW

This role exists to support the development of a positive and compliant safety culture at CalMac's Faulds Park Facility in Gourock. This facility has a 40,000 ft2 high rack warehouse and a 12,000 ft2 engineering workshop. The role holder will proactively work the Logistics and Shore Support Managers in ensuring full compliance of all equipment and operational processes with current health & safety legislation.


FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY TASKS

Working Safely

  • To work safely in accordance with health & safety legislation and CalMac's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
  • To always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment in line with risks identified in each area where work is being carried out.
  • Ensure all health & safety incidents, near misses, or concerns, are reported and recorded in accordance with CalMac's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures


Safety Improvement at Faulds Park

  • Development and maintenance of a Faulds Park Safety Improvement Action plan (develop from document already in place).
  • Ensure that all equipment is fully risk assessed and compliant with current legislation.
  • That all work processes are fully risk assessed and safe systems of work are in place to ensure full compliance.
  • Ensure full compliance with substances hazardous.
  • Work proactively and positively with all personnel based at Faulds Park to develop a positive safety culture.
  • Work proactively and positively with all personnel based at Faulds Park to ensure active participation in risk assessment and development of safe systems of working.
  • Work proactively and positively with CalMac safety management.
  • Undertake safety training for personnel as required.
  • Undertake site and vessel visits and audits at locations where the Shore Support & Logistics teams are deployed to ensure a positive safety culture and compliance is fully applied at all work locations.

General

  • To undertake any and all tasks and duties the role-holders line-manager(s) consider the role holder safe and competent to undertake.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 10 or more years' experience of Health & Safety, and/or environmental compliance management within workshop, fabrication; oil & gas; or higher risk industrial settings.
  • Significant experience in the effective implementation and working of ISO 45001 - Occupational Health & Safety Management.
  • Appropriate recognized Health & Safety management qualifications from a recognised body (e.g., NEBOSH diploma level and above, or equivalents)
  • Strong MS office skills are also essential.
