PRIMARY DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES To undertake surgeries, visits and on-call as agreed between doctors To ensure that surgeries run to time within the constraints of General Practice To undertake appropriate consultations face to face, by telephone or by online consultation either at the surgery or at the patients place of residence bearing in mind the physical, psychological and social aspects of the patients situation To undertake the gathering of relevant information, making appropriate diagnostic formulation and management strategies incorporating the patients own opinions and belief systems Make comprehensive and understandable records in the form agreed upon by the partners Attempt, where possible, to follow through the management of an episode of illness with a patient Respond appropriately to emergencies which arise at the surgery or at the patients home with necessary involvement of other agencies Show responsiveness to other doctors working with you at any given time with regards to the sharing of workload When on-call, be within reasonable distance from the practice to respond to possible emergencies and be in a position to have direct communication with the practice if needed ADMINISTRATION To review blood results, add appropriate actions and follow up requirements To review incoming patient letters, make any appropriate response to sender, add any action or follow up requirements To complete reports sent by third party companies To sign/trouble shoot prescriptions To send referrals and letters for typing as soon as possible to our secretarial team, usually within 3 days, same day for urgent referrals (we use Lexacom and GP Assist for referrals and letters)
