Sand Foundry Technician

My client is a modern and progressive foundry having over 60 year's experience in the production of high-quality aluminium alloy castings, Gravity Die Castings and Aluminium Gravity Die Castings. They have a dedicated and skilled team combining traditional foundry knowledge with modern practice and technology. My client is a privately owned company initially established in Slough in 1959, they moved to their current purpose-built Foundry based in Bury St Edmunds in 1968 and established their long-standing routes with the aim of becoming the best-in-class manufacturing establishment.

(Sand Foundry Technician) - Position Overview

• To have a "hands on" lead role in the daily production within he Sand Foundry working closely with the Production Controller to achieve the daily set production plans.
• Lead responsibility for maintaining the quality of the sand system, including resin calibration, the changing of the resins, cleanliness of the screw mixers, maintaining sand levels within the system, over viewing the shakeout area and dust extraction units are cleaned regular etc.
• Have an input into the casting design and required modifications to new and existing tooling to ensure that production standard costs and quality levels are achieved.
• To liaise with the QA department and Planning Engineer to ensure the samples are progressed quickly as per QAP - 03.
• To action Corrective Action Reports in the Sand Foundry when requested.
• To ensure that tooling is in a fit condition prior to being used for production and raise any issues with the Production Controller and Planning Engineer.
• Ensure that Sand Foundry tooling is cleaned and stored correctly after production use.
• Lead in conjunction with the Production Controller and maintain on a daily basis a high level of housekeeping within the Sand Foundry area.
• Assist the Production Controller and Planning Engineer in ensuring that employees conform to the Health and Safety requirements of the site.
• Working in conjunction with the Production Controller ensure that stock levels of foundry consumables for the Sand Foundry are maintained at a cost-effective level to ensure that customers production schedules are met.
• Assist in the training of company new starters/employees within the Sand Foundry.
• Assist in ensuring that we achieve the environmental requirements /compliance of the site.
• To carry out other site duties at the discretion of and as instructed by the management team when required.

(Sand Foundry Technician) - Position Requirements

• Proven experience as a Sand Foundry technician or in similar role with a foundry environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating and maintaining sand casting equipment
• Proficient in preparing and mixing sand for moulding purposes.
• Ability to set up and operate sand casting machines, including moulding and core-making equipment
• Familiarity with the use of pattern equipment and tools.
• Understanding a variety of casting materials, sands and binders.
• Knowledge of moulding sand properties and the ability to make adjustments to meet specific requirements.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure the quality and integrity of castings
• Ability to perform inspections on completed castings, identifying and addressing any defects.
• Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines in the foundry environment
• Knowledge of proper handling and disposal of foundry-related materials
• Capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to sand casting processes.
• Quick decision making abilities to address unexpected challenges during production
• Effective communication with team member, supervisors and other departments
• Ability to follow and provide clear instructions.
• Collaborative mindset to work efficiently with other technicians and team members.
• Willingness to contribute to a positive and productive work environment

(Sand Foundry Technician) - Position Remuneration

• Monday - Thursday
• 8:30am - 5:30pm
• Overtime available on Friday and Saturday
• Family run business

• Salary is £25k depending on experience
