Serious Fun on Saturdays
Graduate Mathematics Specialists required to teach maths skills to small classes of very able Y5 school children on Saturday mornings at the thriving Saturday School project (based at Alleyn’s School, London SE22 8DN).
At Alleyn’s, 52 children from Year 5 primary schools attend Maths classes with the aim of enhancing their Mathematical understanding. The pupils participate in lessons that cover a wide range of topics and are designed to stretch their Mathematical understanding in fun, creative and interesting ways. The children are put into groups of approximately 12 pupils, and each tutor takes responsibility for one group. The children are selected by ability when they join the scheme so are bright and enthusiastic. In addition, around 40 Year 11 pupils from Alleyn’s School volunteer as mentors on the scheme.
Applicants should have a first degree, ideally in a subject related to Mathematics. Experience of teaching school age children, preferably but not necessarily at primary level, is essential. A formal teaching qualification is desirable.
Tutors are paid £84.57 per two-hour session, this includes £10.22 per session to reflect accrued holiday pay (17-20 weeks per annum, starting on 21 September 2024).
The closing date is Friday 28 June 2024 at midday.
