School Family Liaison Officer

Grade: Grade 8, £32,076 - £36,648 (SCP 23-28) pro rata, actual salary £27,086 - £30,947

Hours: 37 per week, term time only

The Governors of The Acorns Primary and Nursery School wish to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with an excellent work ethic to join our team as a Family Liaison Officer, working alongside our other long-standing Family Liaison Officer, in this varied and busy role. This is a full time, permanent position, working term time only, starting in September or October 2024.

The role is under the general supervision and direction of the Executive Headteacher, working within a team of five safeguarding staff, to offer appropriate support for our vulnerable pupils and families by building strong relationships and further developing our own policies and procedures for safeguarding, attendance and behaviour.

Job summary:

  • Work under the guidance of senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision
  • Welcome pupils daily into the school site whilst also being available for parents and carers to chat/inform
  • Effectively use Arbor and CPOMS to record and share information, as necessary
  • Carry out morning attendance monitoring and follow policies and procedures as required
  • Carry out weekly attendance analysis and follow policies and procedures where pupils are identified as requiring additional intervention for poor attendance or punctuality
  • Support staff and protect the learning of all pupils by supporting those who are demonstrating dysregulation
  • Attend and support with trips, visits, residentials and competitions
  • Gather and collate information and provide reports for meetings and agencies
  • Undertake activities to sensitively gather the voice of the child, and share as required
  • Undertake ELSA sessions for identified pupils and keep records associated
  • Provide pastoral support to pupils in an informal manner in any area in which they may require it, and keep records associated
  • Oversee the transfer of any paper safeguarding records when pupils transition, in line with policies
  • Communicate with parents and carers and all agencies (including social care, early help and prevention, and school health) in person, on the phone, and via email
  • Undertake playground supervision, as required
  • Liaise with the Executive Headteacher regarding parental requests for term-time absences
  • Attend and participate meetings in person and via Teams for families on the continuum of need or those being assessed
  • Act as the Designated Teacher for Looked-After pupils, in line with policy
  • Contribute towards the development of and writing of relevant policies
  • Support pupils and staff members in terms of first aid and mental health first aid
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, including those related to data protection and confidentiality
  • Attend statutory and additional training to enhance practice within safeguarding, mental health, attendance and trauma informed approaches
  • Play a full part in the life of the school community to support, its mission, vision and values, and encourage staff and pupils to follow this example
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals, both within school and within other agencies
  • Maximise all opportunities to support families with accessing food, white goods, uniform, items they may need and opportunities
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all
  • Other duties commensurate with the grade as specified by the Executive Headteacher
