Job description

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and passionate School Librarian to join our team. As the School Librarian, you will play a crucial role in promoting literacy, research skills, and a lifelong love for reading among our students.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Managing the school library, including cataloguing, organising, and maintaining the collection of books and digital resources.
Assisting students and faculty in locating and utilising library materials for research, recreational reading, and academic projects.
Collaborating with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support classroom instruction.
Providing guidance and instruction to students on information literacy, research methodologies, and effective use of library resources.
Promoting reading initiatives, organising book clubs, author visits, and other literary events to encourage a culture of reading and intellectual curiosity.
Keeping abreast of current trends in library science, educational technology, and children's literature to enhance library services and resources.
Managing library budgets, ordering new materials, and overseeing the processing of incoming acquisitions.
Supervising library assistants, volunteers, and students.
Fortis Academy is a very large 11-18 academy serving a local area of high-density housing in Birmingham’s outer suburbs. The Academy is the largest employer in the ward, with over 200 employees. Working Hours: 37 hours per week. Term Time Only plus 5 inset days (working 40 weeks) working 8am - 4pm
