Job description

West Sussex County Council are looking for a School Transport Planner to join us based in Chichester with working from home options.

Salary: £27,334 to £33,024 per annum.

Location: Your main office will be in Chichester, with options to work from home to be discussed. For the first 3 months, you will be required to be in the office to ensure you are adequately supported to succeed.

Contract: Fixed-term contract for 12 months.

Working pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week. Flexible working options available, to be agreed with your line manager.

Employer Pension Contribution: 20.70% this alters per annum on the 1 April each year.

Annual leave: 27 days holiday + Bank holidays = 35 days.

As a School Transport Planner, you will be a skilled organiser ready to make a difference. No two days look the same, as you will have a varied workload depending on the needs of the customers. You will be responsible for planning passenger transport solutions across West Sussex.

You will be working in a fast paced environment where you will need to come up with solutions and involves answering technical queries from residents and suppliers about transport arrangements. You will be trained in the use of various processes and specialist planning software.

What we need from you:

  • Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure, managing competing demands.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Pro-active, with a willingness to seek opportunities for developing passenger transport. Able to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Good influencing, negotiation and partnership working skills.
  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Team working skills.
  • Previous experience of working in a role involving coordination, logistics or planning.
  • Computer literate.
