Responsible to: Bursar, through Head of Science
Role: To provide technical support and assistance to teaching staff in the implementation of the Science Department’s educational programme.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Provision and Maintenance of Facilities and Practical Resources
ØPreparation, organisation and basic construction of resources for demonstrations by teachers and practical examinations.
ØDistribution of equipment and materials for class use and removal of same when class is complete.
ØCollect, clean and store equipment and materials in designated storage areas. Ensure items are maintained as ‘ready for use’.
ØDispose of used materials in a safe and approved manner.
ØEnsure that mandatory and statutory checks of materials and equipment are carried out by qualified personnel.
ØInform the Head of Science of materials and equipment found to be in an unsatisfactory or unsafe condition and arrange for repair and disposal of such items.
ØEnsure no unauthorised person has unsupervised access to equipment and materials when not in use.
ØAdvise on health and safety issues in relation to the use of equipment., chemicals etc.
ØEnsure the maintenance of a clean and orderly working environment within the Department.
ØSupport the teaching staff in providing a safe learning environment.
Administration
ØOperation of manual and computerised systems in relation to administrative tasks.
ØMaintenance of an inventory of Departmental resources.
ØAssistance in the ordering, purchasing, receiving, checking, storing and distribution of resources.
General
ØKeep abreast of all relevant technical developments.
ØUndertake CPD training when required.
ØParticipate fully in all relevant staff training sessions and disseminate information as appropriate.
ØSuch other duties, as delegated through the Head of Science, as could reasonably be expected of the post-holder
