To support our continued site expansion, we currently have an opportunity within the R&D team for an entry-level, or graduate scientist to join us. This team provide product R&D support activities through scientific experimentation and concept development.
This position is at the heart of the R&D team within the packaging integrity and sterilisation development team and your input and delivery of results will be instrumental in the achievement of key product and process innovations in both the UK, Ireland and the US. In this role, you will laboratory testing activities, assessing the performance of our product, as well as aiding design of experimentation, concept development and sterile barrier system advancements.
You should be excited about working in a fast-paced environment within a hard-working and welcoming team. The position offers a wide-range of opportunities to grow your technical and scientific knowledge, as well as analysing data, evaluating results and forming conclusions, and using your technical writing skills to produce reports and documents.
To be successful, you will ideally be degree qualified in a scientific discipline, bring experience of working in a laboratory setting, and have a strong desire to learn and develop professionally.
The ideal candidates will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a team. You will need to have good communication, analytical and time management skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment. There will be opportunity to collaborate within R&D, and with quality, operations and engineering functions in the UK, Ireland and the US.

Your own right to work in the UK
We welcome applications from candidates already eligible to work in the UK or those that can apply for a visa granting permission to work in the UK (e.g. dependent visas, ancestry etc.) that do not require sponsorship from Abbott. You will be asked to share proof of this prior to receiving any offer of employment. W would like to make you aware that if you are made an offer of employment with Abbott you will need to remain on your current visa / permit. If for any reason your visa status changes, we will be unable to offer you sponsorship in the future. In addition, the Company would not fund any subsequent non sponsored visa applications - you will be solely responsible for paying and maintaining your own right to work in the UK. In some instances we may not be able to offer you a permanent contract.
Any employment offer made by Abbott is contingent upon you obtaining and maintaining the right to work and reside legally in the UK. You are required to notify us immediately if your immigration status changes after you have submitted your application.
Graduates
If you are on a Graduate visa, we cannot guarantee you sponsorship from within the UK upon its expiry. Abbott only has a set number of Certificate of Sponsorship applications that can be made each year, which are utilised for highly skilled workers transferring internally. If this limit is reached and other Home Office requirements cannot be met, it will prevent us from being able to sponsor and therefore employ you, unless you are able to secure your own right to work in the UK following the expiry of a Graduate visa.
