Second Chef

Full Time and Permanent – 40 hours per week

We are seeking to appoint a full time Second chef to assist the Head Chef in the provision of a comprehensive Catering Service that provides both quality and consistency in accordance with the standards required. To deputise for the Head Chef in his/her absence. To motivate, train and support staff under his/her control.

As the Second Chef, your responsibilities would be to:

To prepare, cook and serve all meals using recipes and methods as directed by the Head Chef. To be fully conversant with the requirement of basic food hygiene and to observe these at all times during the preparation, cooking and serving of all meals.

To read and comply with the Catering Department Rules and Regulations, it’s Health and Safety Policy and any other policies and/or instructions issued from time to time.

Food Production

Prepare, cook and serve meals for the community, pupils, staff, parents and any visitors or organisations who attend Worth School under the direction of the Head Chef.

Kitchen Hygiene

To ensure that your working area and equipment used is clean and tidy to a standard that is consistent with good Basic Food Hygiene.

Other Duties

To ensure that sufficient food and resources are bought in from approved suppliers at agreed prices and meet the school’s regulatory requirements.

What we are looking for:

• Qualified to City and Guilds 706 (1&2)/NVQ Level 1 & 2 (Essential)
• Experienced chef, minimum 2 years (Essential)
• Proven experience as a chef using fresh ingredients (Essential)
• Excellent understanding of ingredients and allergen legislation (Essential)
• Proven experience in safe food preparation (Essential)
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Desirable)
• Current Food Hygiene Certificate (Desirable)
• Experience in managing a team (Desirable)
