SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNING BODY

SALARY: The salary for the post is Grade 10 currently £48,350 - £56,021 per annum, pro rata.

REPORTING TO: PRINCIPAL

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB PURPOSE:

The Secretary to the Governing Body, will provide professional advice to the Governing Body, ensuring that the Governing Body complies with relevant legislation and their terms of authorisation, and supporting them in the successful delivery of their duties. The person appointed must be able to provide a high standard of professional service to the Governing Body on a flexible basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To ensure the effective organisation and management of Governing Body business, including Governing Body Committees.
2. To provide authoritative guidance to the Governing Body about its responsibilities, under the instrument and, articles of government, ordinances and regulations to which they are subject to, including providing or obtaining relevant legal advice on how these responsibilities should be discharged.
3. To provide or obtain legal advice for the Governing Body and ensure that relevant procedures, rules, regulations and legal requirements are complied with.
4. To work closely with the Chair of the Governing Body, Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, Chair of the Education Committee and Chair of the HR and Remuneration Committee for the conduct of Governing Body and Committee business (i.e. agendas, papers, minutes etc.), maintaining an overall understanding of the Board and its Committees.
