Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) is looking to appoint SecurityNight Operative to be based at the East Slope 24/7 residence reception on campus to cover 7 nights rota based on 4 shifts on and 4 shifts off between 7pm-7am.
The role will cover both Security and Portering duties to ensure maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents, provide the main point of contact for any student or visitor queries and to attend to any maintenance, welfare , tenancy related or other issues which arise during the shift. The SecurityNight Operative will be supported by a Team of Security on campus when required.
Note: In order to undertake any of these duties the post holder must either be the holder of a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence (Door Supervisor preferred), or be capable of attaining one before appointment. The post holder must also attain an SIA CCTV operator's licence, if not holding that licence on appointment.
Responsibilities
To provide Security and Portering services in the residences and maintain a presence in reception.
To undertake portering duties and attend to maintenance or complaints/welfare issues in residential areas
To undertake janitorial duties when required
To undertake pastoral care role as and when required.
To patrol buildings/ attend to incidents.
Knowledge skills and experience
This job would suit an individual with experience of working in a FM environment where multi-skilled duties of both Security and Porter duties are required and you are able to provide these in a pro-active, conscientious manner. We require a person who can work using their own initiative, is aware and respectful of the diverse backgrounds of both students and staff. You need to be a reliable team player and someone that has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Health & Safety
To attain the recognised first aid qualification for the administering of first aid when required
Carry out regular inspections of equipment that contributes to Health & Safety (e.g. external lights, emergency telephones etc.)
Work with other departments within the University to ensure that our duty of care to residents and users is discharged fully
Implement set procedures for dealing with Health & Safety issues outside of normal working hours
