About this opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate and forward-thinking Solution Architect who can combine deep technical thought leadership with strong security knowledge & skills to help drive the Group’s Security capabilities forward.
You’ll support our Chief Security Office (CSO) Platform Teams, helping to define Solution Architecture and design that both unlocks, as well creates, opportunities to digitise, deliver excellent customer journeys, and business outcomes. All this while meeting group strategic goals to simplify and redefine the technology landscape.
The CSO is a vital part of delivering the Group's vision of putting customers at the heart of everything we do, helping Britain prosper and protecting the Group and customers from security threats. We’re responsible for defining and communicating Lloyds Banking Group's security strategy and providing a range of critical Enterprise Security Services which not only operate key controls that keep the Group safe but also enable the digital transformation agenda of the wider organisation.
As a Solution Architect, you'll play a critical role in designing solutions that can provide continuous value to our customers. Your contribution will be instrumental to our strategy of simplifying, modernising, and de-risking the Group technology landscape, ensuring value for customers and shareholders. This is a key role driving the long-term sustainability and integrity of the organisation.
  • You’ll be working with Product Owners, Platform Leads, Enterprise Architects and Engineers to create the Architectural runway for our CSO Platform teams. Once agreed, our Solution Architects continuously invest in maintaining the Architecture that underpins our Platform teams. You’ll also work alongside Enterprise Architecture and service providers to develop solutions, their interfaces and validating technology assumptions, evaluating implementation alternatives and software lifecycle risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies.
  • You'll view business and technical challenges from many different perspectives to build and drive end-to-end solution designs that are not only technically sound, but also include regulatory, commercial, and organisational aspects when appropriate. More importantly, we'd need you to bring others on the journey with you, building a 'one-team' approach.
  • The customer will be at the centre of your decisions and actions. You’ll use industry best-practise, frameworks, standards, and policies to create opportunities and value for our customers, supporting us to meet their needs. You’ll also elicit requirements, shape and validate designs or prototypes that deliver customer outcomes that align to our target architecture.
  • As a subject matter expert, you’ll set guiding principles and solution success criteria for platform capability (or feature development) across the platform; providing oversight and championing built in quality, decoupled, and modernised architectures.
  • You’d be asked to support Product Owners and Platform Leads in identifying, articulating and impact assessing software and infrastructure currency risks or issues. You’d confidently offer options and recommendations on action planning and continuously ever-greening solutions/systems within the Platform.
  • Passionate about architecture, you’ll promote the architecture subject area through mentoring, coaching and participation in Agile ceremonies.

About us
Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too...
What you’ll need
We need a Solution Architecture who understands the challenges of modern architecture. You’ll build a compelling strategic vision and will understand a wide array of technology implications including people and process, bringing this to your comprehensive view of design.
You'll ideally have previous career experience in software or infrastructure engineering and will be well placed to define and sell your vision for Engineers, Architects, and Product Owners alike.
You must be a keen and comfortable communicator who is happy working with a wide range of technical and non-technical colleagues. You would be able to produce high quality documentation tailored to the audience which would include senior stakeholders. As a role that can require demanding delivery timeframes, you'll need to be self-organised and proactively prioritise your time.
We're in search of someone who holds some of the following experiences.
  • A passion for acquiring and applying findings to create customer and business value.
  • Experiences working in multi-disciplinary product, feature, or platform teams.
  • Has established systems engineering or Solution Architecture experience and appreciation of software engineering methods such as Behaviour & Test Driven Development.
  • Has superb communication skills - especially visually and through "telling the story", using the data to communicate complex messages in an accessible and compelling way. They'll also be able to distil sophisticated information and present in a succinct and clear format through both written and oral presentation, allowing you to influence collaborators with little or no technical knowledge, guiding their thinking on the art of the possible through technology.
  • Has established experiences partnering with other collaborators such as Enterprise, Security, Data and Infrastructure architects to create customer value or address business problems.
  • Holds proficient experiences leading activities associated with Architectural Governance, Risk Management or Compliance processes.
