Job description

Selective licensing applications officer

Government approval of an Oxford City Council 'Selective Licensing' scheme means that from September 2022, all private rented homes in Oxford require a licence. Just under half (49.3%) of Oxford homes are privately rented and licensing requires landlords to show they are meeting safety and management standards.

All of which means we are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and dedicated people who are committed to delivering excellent customer service and quality, to come and join our team responsible for administering the Selective Licensing scheme and licensing private rented homes in the City.

The work involved is very diverse; from taking customer calls, to using detailed procedure notes and complex information systems to process applications, and responding to a high volume of emails. It's fast-paced, where changes to the way we work need to be swiftly implemented to reflect ever-changing legislation, and where an ability to learn quickly and retain information is a definite advantage. Your experience of providing excellent customer service will also be used every day, as you make contact with our customers via phone and email.

This is an entry-level role and full training on the role-specific knowledge you need will be provided, so you develop the skills needed to help build and shape the service we provide to Oxford City residents and users.? As you learn and develop within the role, your skills, performance and enthusiasm for the work will be recognised and rewarded: Our Career Grade scheme provides opportunities for future progression and to move up to a higher pay grade once you have successfully completed the probation period and demonstrated high standards of performance.

So, if you're keen to join a well-established team that already successfully administers applications for HMO, Planning, Housing,?Right to buy, Building Control, Taxi licensing, Land Charges, Street Numbering and Naming, have a good eye for detail, are open to learning new skills, and enjoy being part of a busy and pro-active team then we would very much like to hear from you.
