Our school in the Derby area is dedicated to providing exceptional education and support for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those with autism and a mix of complex needs. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a positive impact in the life of a child with autism and complex needs.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing tailored support to a child with autism and a mix of complex needs, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development. This role requires an immediate start and a commitment to working full-time.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge of Special Needs and Working with Complex Needs: Demonstrated understanding of various special educational needs, particularly autism and SEMH, and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual requirements.
2. Experience with Challenging Behaviours: Proven track record in managing challenging behaviours effectively, employing positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies to create a supportive learning environment.
3. Child-Centric Approach: Strong emphasis on building rapport and understanding with the child, utilizing child-focused techniques to engage and support their learning journey.
4. Flexible and Adaptive: Ability to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement tailored support plans.
5. Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated empathy, patience, and resilience in working with children with complex needs, ensuring a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every child can thrive.
Requirements:
Previous experience working with a range of special educational needs, particularly autism and SEMH.
Full-time availability with an immediate start.
Relevant qualifications and/or training in special education or related fields.
Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
