SEN Co-ordinator Job Description

  • Part-time, full academic year, term-time only.

A SENCO is needed in a PRU school.

This SENCO role will be full time and permanent.

Responsibilities for this SENCO post will include but are not limited to:

  • To improve SEND practices across the school community
  • Manage the SEND Teams and assign responsibilities accordingly
  • Maintain effective communication between staff, pupils and parents

At Remedy we are looking for a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) is a valuable and key member of our team, playing a complex and specialist role within our learning community. You will take responsibility for coordinating all the support for children who may have behavioural or various disabilities (SEND) within a Pupils Referral Unit (PRU). As a lead professional you will contribute to, alongside the SLT, monitoring and evaluating the performance of all support staff and support the delivery of improvement strategies for SEND.

Additionally, this is a perfect role to provide a valuable experience for aspiring Psychologist, ASD teachers, Therapist, Primary School Teachers and more.

Ideal SEN Co-ordinator role

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Hold an appropriate SENCo Qualification OR have experience in a SENCO role and be willing to undertake qualification within 2 years of taking up post.
  • A proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice.
  • An excellent, efficient and emotionally intelligent communicator.
  • Sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • A strong desire to work inclusively within an emotionally literate environment, supporting children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
  • Experience of crisis-management/managing challenging behaviours and working with children with SEMH difficulties.
  • The ambition to progress professionally within an expanding, child-centred national organisation.
  • Experience of effective working with hard-to-reach or disengaged families.
