SEND Tribunal Mediation and ComplexCase Manager
West Berkshire
£450.00/day
Start date: ASAP
This is working 22 hours per week (Part Time) - Hybrid
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To undertake management of Tribunal cases, including working with Legal Services to prepare case statements, liaising with professionals, families and the Tribunal, supporting witnesses, working with the SEN Manager to determine whether agreements can be reached prior to or during a hearing, reviewing Tribunal decisions to identify learning points for the Local Authority and ensuring that Tribunal directions are fully implemented.
To ensure that Tribunal cases are progressed according to prescribed timescales.
To represent the Local Authority in formal mediations including preparation for mediations, attendance at mediations and any follow up actions
To take responsibility for other Complex Cases, as determined by the SEN Manager, including liaison with family and professionals, correspondence, attendance at meetings as required, with a view to avoidance of Tribunals / litigation where it is possible to do so.
To work closely with colleagues in Children's Services, Adult Social Care, other Council teams and other relevant agencies particularly Health, in order to promote effective joint working on behalf of children with SEND.
To work closely with families in order to resolve issues wherever possible and to work with agencies supporting parents such as SENDIASS.

To deputise for the SEN Manager as required.
To undertake such tasks as Head of Education or Corporate Director may from time to time reasonably require.
Qualifications
Education to degree level or equivalent
Qualified Teacher with successful teaching experience and management responsibility Experience
Experience of managing SEN casework in a Local Authority context
Experience of managing SEND Tribunal cases
Experience of inter-agency working and working with parents, headteachers, SENCOs and other professionals and agencies
Experience of representing Local Authorities at formal mediation
Knowledge and understanding
Excellent knowledge and working experience of current SEN legislation and related guidance including the SEN Code of Practice
Knowledge of Children and Families Act 2014
Skills and abilities
Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing within a range of contexts
High order negotiating and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage oral and written negotiations sensitively, appropriately and successfully
Ability to use IT for a range of purposes including E-mail, internet, word processing, powerpoint and excel spreadsheets
Ability to use the SEN module on the Capita One system
