A recently established local Independent SEN school is looking for a SENDCo to join their team on a full time, permanent basis. The school offers a safe, nurturing and positive environment for students aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, as well as other learning difficulties. This small and friendly school is set in beautiful countryside, giving students a calm and peaceful environment to thrive, enjoy and achieve.

As SENDCo, you will join the Senior Leadership Team and will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.

Main Responsibilities:

Like many SEN environments, your duties are likely to vary and therefore candidates will need to be flexible and be able to lend a hand whenever required.

  • Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) provision within the school
  • Be responsible for specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
  • Ensure the school meets its obligations under the statutory SEND Code of Practice
  • Have a strategic overview of provision for pupils with SEN or a disability across the school, monitoring and reviewing the quality of provision in line with student's EHCPs
  • Engage with external stakeholders to ensure students are effectively supported to meet their EHCP targets
  • Take a lead in maintaining effective working relationships with post-16 and FE providers locally
  • Work with the headteacher to ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
  • As part of the Senior Leadership Team, ensure the school meets its statutory duties to good effect
  • Contribute to the school improvement plan and whole-school policy
  • Promote an ethos and culture that supports the school's SEN policy and promotes good outcomes for pupils with SEN or a disabilities

Successful candidates will have:

  • Qualified teacher status or National Award for SEN (Desirable but not Essential)
  • Experience of working in an SENDCo role at a senior level (Essential)
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high quality inclusive teaching practices within a specialist setting
  • Experience of effective liaison with a range of outside agencies (Essential)
  • Demonstrates commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children (Essential)
  • Has up to date safeguarding training (Essential)
  • Able to support and improve outcomes for a range of diverse Special Educational Needs (Essential)
  • Able to train and support teachers to deliver appropriate interventions to improve outcomes for all (Essential)
  • Able to use performance data to inform provision mapping and planning (Essential)
  • Knowledge of a range and types of interventions available (Essential)
  • Able to manage effectively SEN provision throughout the school (Essential)
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments and best practice in SEN legislation and all aspects of inclusion and pastoral care (Essential)
  • Able to lead and manage people to work effectively, both individually and in teams (Essential)
  • Able to promote a welcoming, inclusive and fully supportive learning environment (Essential)
