Senior Administration Officer (Deputy Clerk) at Ripon City Council

Salary: £30,296 - £32,076 (SCP 20-23)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Location: Town Hall, Ripon – Hybrid working

Evening working: Yes, you will need to attend regular meetings which can last until 6pm

Ripon City Council represents the first tier of local government in Ripon, closest to its electors. The staff team are responsible for assisting the Chief Officer in enacting the decisions taken by the 12 elected members that form the City Council.


No two days are the same and the team deal with everything from statutory audit to making the amazing community events happen in the city centre.


The Council has an adopted Ripon City Plan which runs to 2030. This outlines a wide range of aims and aspirations over the next few years. A part of this role will be to support the Chief Officer in working with the elected Councillors and various stakeholders in seeking to meet the outcomes within the plan.


About the role

The role of the Senior Administration Officer is to provide support to the Chief Officer and elected Councillors in achieving the aims and aspirations for the Council and the wider community. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a role where you can really make a positive difference.


The Senior Administration Officer will also be expected to support the Chief Officer in facilitating the implementation of the Council’s stand-alone priorities and objectives.

Day to day duties include:

  • Liaising with and managing the hirers of a community building, everything from maintaining a spreadsheet to creation of invoices
  • Data entry into the accounts system
  • Collating timesheets and preparing payroll
  • Arranging events – everything from Remembrance Sunday to the community concerts we run
  • Assembling meeting papers
  • Working on policies
  • Assisting with facilities management.

What you will bring

It is essential that applicants can confidently demonstrate strong organisational skills, commitment to public service and be community focused.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in a similar, public facing role
  • Have strong organisational skills and be motived to work to set deadlines
  • Be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office 265
  • Have the ability to effectively work with members of the public, elected members, and key stakeholders
  • A Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) would be an advantage but is not essential
