Senior Advocate

Salary: £20,432 - £23,374 for 29 hours (FTE £27,000 - £29,822 for 37 hours) depending on experience and qualifications.
Location: Selly Oak, Birmingham. (The role requires you to work in service users’ homes and community venues)
Hours: 29 or 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. Part time or full-time flex.

Our team are passionate about the difference we make and are now looking for someone to join us as a Senior Advocate.

What we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior Advocate to join our team to oversee the development and delivery of our Pregnancy to Parenthood project.

This pivotal role supports and champions people with learning disabilities during pregnancy and becoming new parents to develop good parenting skills to ensure their children receive the appropriate support they need. You will enable people to make informed choices about decisions by providing them with accurate and accessible information, including the setting up and facilitating of workshops.

You will provide line management support to an independent advocate and a project officer with lived experience. The team also supports parents to access self-advocacy, peer, and group advocacy. As well as working alongside another Senior Advocate to provide case work supervision across the organisation.

About You:
You will have:

  • experience of working as an advocate in various settings ensuring their voices are heard and rights are protected.
  • experience of supporting people to navigate challenges they face and access appropriate services.
  • Understanding or issues faced by parents with learning disabilities and a commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity.
  • proven experience in a leadership or managerial role.
  • ability to work using own initiative, prioritising work, case management and time management.
  • excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt communication depending on the needs of the person.
  • excellent IT skills including using Microsoft Office packages.
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team setting.

As part of your professional development in the role, the successful candidate will be supported to complete their Level 4, Advocacy qualification as appropriate.
