We are seeking a Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Products and Applications team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the Mechanical Engineering development of battery modules and systems for BESS initially but growing to a wider range of applications.



Position: Permanent

Salary: Dependant on Experience

Location: Oxford


The role of Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer:

  • Lead technical projects in the Products and Applications team.
  • Design the mechanical aspects of battery modules and systems, considering all relevant aspects of the products including safety and thermal management.
  • Manage your own activities and technically managing other engineers on your projects in relation to milestones and deliverables agreed with the project management team.
  • Drive the technical direction of your assigned areas and leading team members accordingly.
  • Analyse and create data for battery development including physical data, simulations, and theoretical models.
  • Travel internationally occasionally


The Person

  • Qualified to bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree.
  • A proven track record in battery development
  • Experience in battery design including safety, thermal management, mechanical, structural, and sealing.
  • Experience of assembling and testing prototype batteries in a commercial or academic setting
  • Experience with CAD software and FEA for thermal and structural analysis
  • To hold Chartered Engineer status or to be working towards it
  • Must be able to prepare technical reports for dissemination throughout the company, making recommendations for technical progression.
  • Experience with reporting progress in regular updates to your line manager and the Project Management team, and comfortable presenting to the senior management team as required.
  • Preferable experience with hazardous/ high voltage battery system design
