Senior Bookkeeper - Hyrbid/Remote
Key Responsibilities:
- Being a Pod Leader - leading a small group of staff to ensure that the work for a broader client portfolio is completed on time and adheres to our standards and processes.
- Quality Control - reviewing the work of others in the team and giving feedback and support as required
- Problem solving any issues with workflow or handling any client issues which arise
- Completing Xero Healthchecks, Xero set ups and providing Xero support and training for clients doing their own bookkeeping
Pod Leader Responsibilities:
- Leading a weekly team meetings to review progress and identify any issues for resolution
- Ensuring that the practice management system is being updated thoroughly and regularly to record the progress of all work within the pod
- Leading the embedding of any changes in processes within the business
- Highlighting any issues needing resolution or support from the Accounting Services Manager who is the line manager for all members of the bookkeeping team.
Client Management Responsibilities:
- To lead the onboarding of the client and ensure that the client understands our processes and timescales and that the work commences smoothly and as quickly as possible.
- To direct and support the Bookkeeper to get the work completed on time and accurately
- Checking the quality of the work, reviewing month end and year end work and checklists and providing feedback to the Bookkeeper if required.
- Picking up on any issues relating to the Bookkeeping that need to be communicated to the client and ensure this is communicated effectively back to the client.
Bookkeeping Responsibilities:
- Processing sales invoices and other types of income
- Processing purchase invoices, receipts, expenses and other expenditure items
- Ensuring items are correctly coded to the appropriate nominal.
- Ensuring items are correctly coded to the appropriate VAT code as required.
- Matching payments received and paid through the bank accounts
- Bank reconciliations
- Journals
- Maintaining effective bookkeeping files and records
- Processing CIS transactions and submitting CIS returns as required
- VAT reconciliation and preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Month end checks
- Reviewing and providing monthly reporting
- Completing year end checks and liaison with accountant
- If required by the client, to undertake other financial administration on their behalf.
- If required by the client, to provide more pro-active services including budgeting and cashflow forecasting and supporting clients with system or software changes
- Liaising with clients to chase for information or to help them with their queries in a positive, supportive and customer friendly manner.
- Making suggestions to clients as to how they can improve their financial systems and processes as appropriate.
- Planning and managing own time efficiently to enable deadlines and expectations of clients to be met.
The successful candidate will have:
- Extensive bookkeeping or accounting experience working with multiple clients
- Accounting or bookkeeping qualification
- Strong understanding of VAT and CIS requirements
- Ability to interpret financial information and highlight issues or trends
- Significant experience of Xero Bookkeeping Software
