About The Role


As a Senior Building Surveyor you will manage and promote the provision of your area of expertise and contribute to the successful development and implementation of the Council’s asset management and maintenance programmes, and other Council projects, to meet the requirements of a condition survey across the entire estate including residential estate, care homes and schools. The role also requires a high degree of coordination across the repairs and maintenance function of the Corporate Estate service to provide the organisation with a planned maintenance programme, taking a high degree of personal responsibility.


The post holder will be responsible for the organisation of complex and difficult tasks to ensure that the entire estate is has a planned maintenance programme together with good computer literacy, communication and extensive knowledge in carrying out maintenance and testing plant and equipment is key for this role.


You will contribute to the general management, development and review of the Team and will manage and mentor the Buildings Surveyors and Apprentice Building Surveyors who will report to you.


Reporting to the repairs and maintenance manager as part of the Corporate Estate Service, this role will contribute to the successful development and implementation of the Council’s asset management and maintenance programmes and other Council projects.


The role is permanent, and one of its main purposes is to play a full role in the professional team that will contribute to ensuring that property performance, monitoring and reporting of remediation becomes a system driven operation in the next two years.


The ideal candidate will have a track record in managing the property repairs and maintenance requirements with a background in managing planned maintenance programmes in a complex estate with prioritization and risk management the heart of the planned programmes. The successful candidate will play an important management role within the wider Corporate Estate team with responsibility for ensuring the council’s assets are maintained in accordance with current legislation in a safe cost effective and energy efficient manner. A working knowledge of the complexities of working within a heritage estate would be an advantage.


About You


Educated to degree level with relevant professional qualifications and membership of a relevant professional body. The legislative framework that governs your technical day to day repairs and compliance management activity will be well known to you. You will be well versed in developing and reporting against standards and performance indicators. An added advantage would be experience in delivering or working with recognised facilities management compliance management reporting systems and a demonstrable track record in management of heritage buildings. In addition, you will be a strong team player with a collaborative work style and demonstrably good interpersonal, influencing, and organisational skills. You can work flexibly and be capable of undertaking complex tasks with minimum supervision whilst managing complicated demands and deadlines.


Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
