Job description

Residential care home for elderly clients.

Senior Carer / Supervisor required for busy residential care home.

Candidates must be empathetic to residents needs and requirements.

SVQ 2/3 will be required

All applicants subject to PVG checks and must have suitable references.

Job Role:

  • Accountable to oversee each shift in the provision of the safe care of all Residents in line with Legislation, Regulations, Guidelines and the Organisation’s policies and procedures, and as directed by Care Home Manager. Requirements

1. To meet the qualification requirements of SSSC Registration.

2. To be registered with the SSSC or to Register within required timescale.

3. Awareness & Understanding of the SSSC Code of Practice.

4. PVG Registered Communication, Respect, Confidentiality

1. A responsible, polite and professional approach is expected of all staff.

2. Consider alternative methods of communication with those who require it.

3. Respect the Privacy, Dignity, Needs & Beliefs of each resident.

4. All staff must respect the confidence of Residents and information relating to their care. Main Duties and Responsibilities Responsibility / Acountability

1. The Supervisor will have responsibility for the running of the shift including allocation of duties, and also Day to Day Management of the Care Home in the Managers absence. Care Planning

1. To prepare and maintain up to date Resident Care Plans and advise Care Home Manger of any updates / changes.

2. Oversee the admission and discharge process of Residents following the relevant processes. Personal Care

1. Oversee and delegate tasks to Care Assistants, providing supervision where required.

2. Record Observe and report to Supervisor / Care Home Manager any changes in the condition or behaviour of the Residents.

Nutrition & Hydration

1. Ensure that residents receive the correct nutrition & hydration according to their needs. Medication

1. Managing the recording and administering of medication and controlled drugs. Compliance

1. Responsible for ensuring that policies, procedures and processes are followed in line with National Legislation, Regulation & Guidelines.

2. Ensuring that records and documentation are kept up to date. Auditing

1. Responsible for carrying out various audits whilst on shift including Care & IPC Observation audits. Supervision

1. Provide support to staff in terms of developing their skills and practice, identifying areas for improvement and supporting them to improve their skills and practice.

2. Holding regular Supervision sessions for staff in their Team. Kitchen, Housekeeping & Maintenance Staff

1. Manage staff and ensure staff are carrying out their roles effectively in order to support the safe care of Residents. Healthcare Professionals & External Agencies

1. Liaise with Healthcare Professionals including District Nurse, GP’s, Hospital, Chiropodists etc with regards to making Resident Healthcare decisions.

2. Liaise with Social Work & NHS Care Home Support Team with regards to resident care.

3. Liaise with Care Inspectorate in Care Home Manager absence.

4. As directed by Supervisor / Care Home Manager / Healthcare Professional, and after appropriate training, Care Assistants may undertake duties including taking and recording of temperature, pulse and blood pressure, testing urine, weighing mobile residents, and recording of results. Meaningful Activities

1. Ensure that meaningful activities (physical, educational, psychological) for Residents take place and are these activities are recorded.

2. As directed by Supervisor / Care Home Manager / Healthcare Professional, and after appropriate training, Care Assistants may undertake duties including taking and recording of temperature, pulse and blood pressure, testing urine, weighing mobile residents, and recording of results. Accident & Incident Reporting & Documentation

1. Record any accidents & accidents appropriately and report where required to relevant Authorities in line with policy and procedure.

2. Report any breakages or equipment requiring repair to Care Home Manager / Operations Manager.

3. Report to Care Home Manager any complaints from Residents or relatives. Visitor Engagement

1. Liaising and dealing with relatives.

2. Ensure that the correct visitor documentation is completed and visitors adhere to policies and procedures.

3. Receiving and recording complaints/concerns from any residents, relatives, staff, visitors and addressing where appropriate and liaising with management. Training & Meetings Staff will be expected to attend Meetings and Training at reasonable notice. Mandatory & Statutory Training includes:

3. Health and Safety

4. First Aid

5. Infection Prevention Control

6. Public Protection - Adults at Risk

7. Dementia Awareness

8. Food Hygiene

9. Duty of Candor Supervision & Development

1. Staff are required to participate in regular Supervision & Development sessions with their Line Manager.

Health, Safety & Security

1. Supervisor is responsible for the Health, Safety & Security of the building.

2. It is the responsibility of all employees to ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are complied with, safe working practices are adhered to and that any hazards observed are reported to the Supervisor / Care Home Manager immediately.
