Job description

Working alongside the Head of Adult and Family Services, Immigration Advisors and our team of Advice Volunteers, the Caseworker will support clients to positively progress with their lives. The caseworker will be responsible for the delivery of advice, provided over the telephone and in person. The work will focus on immigration advice but will cover a broad range of issues including welfare benefits, housing, destitution and homelessness and asylum support.

The caseworker should have experience of providing regulated immigration advice at least at OISC Level 1, along with an in-depth knowledge of the issues faced by refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants who are at-risk. They will have a good understanding of the challenges faced by these groups, including destitution and inability to access services due to No Recourse to Public Fund restrictions.

SLRA is a well established local migrant support organisation working alongside refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants who are at risk or in crisis due to immigration issues. Our committed, supportive team works alongside local volunteers to provide a range of services including advice and casework, Drop In sessions, ESOL classes, counselling, supportive group sessions, youth casework and activities for families and young people.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience of providing high quality advice, including immigration advice, and casework to migrants in the UK.
  • A good understanding of a wide range of legal rights and entitlements affecting SLRA’s client group including immigration, welfare benefits and housing entitlements in the UK.
  • Regulation to provide immigration advice at OISC Level 1 or higher.
  • The ability to listen and work with discretion and sensitivity in a non-judgemental manner.
