We empower our clients with cutting-edge analytics and insights, providing them the confidence to make strategic decisions that transform industries. As a team member, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, translating data into impactful solutions and taking the reins of your career like never before.

We believe that every candidate brings something special to the table, including you! So, even if you feel that you’re close but not an exact match, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a Senior Catastrophe Analyst to join our UK team. Here at Gallagher we’re nimble, breaking free of archaic systems and methods used by other brokers.

We're making huge investments in Analytics, to make us a best-in-class Analytics broker. And you'll be responsible for driving renewal modelling and year-round client engagement. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in all Lines including but not limited to, Property, Terrorism and Marine Reinsurance.

Responsibilities

  • Your day-to-day will be really varied, from leading core renewal modelling projects to managing year-round client engagement for several key UK clients.
  • You’ll be responsible for the operation of catastrophe modelling software (RMS, AIR, and others), including interrogating, exposure and result databases via SQL. You’ll build, present, and explain catastrophe model results to clients and internal stakeholders, with a focus on year-on-year changes, and the underlying factors driving them.
  • You’ll also develop innovative analytics solutions to assist clients in quantifying catastrophe risk, and in the support of business requirements
  • As a senior member of the team, you’ll be a role model within a team and contribute to helping develop the capabilities of others, and the team through teamwork, training and leading by example.
  • You’ll participate and contribute to wider business unit, group, and market initiatives aimed at keeping us at the cutting edge of analytical capability as the reinsurance market and the use of catastrophe models continues to evolve
Qualifications:

Qualifications & Experience

Your Catastrophe Analytics background would ideally be at a Broker, Underwriting Syndicate or Reinsurer operating in the London market, and you will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of catastrophe modelling and how it relates to business decisions.
You’ll have already built up a robust technical capability with at least one of the major vendor models. This will include a thorough understanding of the major model components, an in-depth knowledge of model inputs, settings, and outputs, and a working knowledge of some key region perils and the basis upon which the models themselves are built.

You’ll also be comfortable dealing with brokers, clients and markets when needed.

As a minimum you’ll have:
  • A degree in numerate or hazard-related subjects, ideally Applied Maths, Statistics or Engineering, Computer Science or relevant scientific subject such as Physics, Seismology, Atmospheric Science, Geo-Sciences. Alternatively, relevant industry experience would be considered
  • Working knowledge of at least one vendor model (i.e. RMS, AIR)
  • Working knowledge of SQL; additional computer programming skills (e.g. VBA, R, python) would be beneficial
  • Problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail, and an ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

It would be great if you also had:
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance sector
