Job Purpose The post-holder will work as a member of Sunderland Community CAMHS to deliver a community based Getting Help mental health service to children and young people. This includes the direct provision of evidence-based outcome focused psychological interventions to children and young people in Sunderland and the delivery of high-quality training, consultation and support to other childrens service providers in the city. This is an exciting role within Sunderland Community CAMHS which aims to develop the low intensity service provision within the service. It represents an opportunity for an experienced Childrens Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner who is committed to this model to develop their careers within a low intensity service. The post-holder will: Hold an accredited postgraduate diploma in Low Intensity CBT for children and young people. Hold a supervision qualification, have substantial experience of providing clinical supervision to other CWPs, or be able and willing to achieve this qualification. Offer low intensity interventions which are evidence-based for children and young people presenting with anxiety and low mood. Provide case management and clinical skills supervision to CWPs working within the service, who will be employed by Sunderland Counselling Service and South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Develop and support innovative practice for trainee and qualified CWPs, other workers qualified to act in low intensity roles and to Primary Care colleagues, such as health visitors, community matrons, etc., and to staff working in non-statutory organisations. To line manage and be fully involved in the development of the childrens social prescribers. There will be a significant case management and clinical supervision component to the post, and this is an opportunity for qualified and experienced CWPs who are enthusiastic and excited by the development of low intensity interventions for children and young people to share their interest and passion, and to develop these qualities and skills in others. The post holder will work with children and young people aged up to 18 from different cultural backgrounds, using interpreters when necessary and may be called upon to work in various community settings, including CCAMHS bases, schools, GP surgeries and other third sector bases. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1.Clinical: 1.1.To undertake, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of low intensity interventions to support the mental health needs of children from birth to 18 years and their families, with other childrens workers from health, childrens services and the voluntary sector in collaboration with senior staff. 1.2.To deploy extensive knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and young people and have a working knowledge of the relevant legislation around this. 1.3.To be able to work at the complex interface between universal and specialist childrens service provision. 1.4.To work across boundaries to contribute to a co-ordinated multi-agency response to meeting the mental health needs of children up to the age of 18 and their families. 1.5.To meet performance targets in relation to all aspects of service delivery. 1.6.To undertake mental health assessments to ensure the suitability of the child or young person for a low intensity intervention, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service, back to the referral agent as necessary or step-up the young persons treatment to another form of psychological therapy. 1.7.Provide a range of information, support for and deliver evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help or computerised CBT. This work may be delivered face to face, over the telephone or via other media. 1.8.To conduct risk assessments and act accordingly, with support, to agreed protocols for managing risk. 1.9.Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient. 1.10.Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate. 1.11.Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service. 1.12.Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and use these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision making. 1.13.Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach. 1.14.Prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to clinical case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service are met. 1.15.Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical practice. 1.16.Engage in and respond to personal development supervision to improve competences and clinical practice. 2.Supervision and Training 2.1.Provide clinical skills and caseload management supervision to other CWPs and trainee CWPs working within the service. 2.2.Undertake own appropriate clinical supervision on a regular basis in accordance with the relevant professional guidelines and policies. 2.3.Offer training in CBT based interventions to staff working in universal settings e.g., schools. 2.4.Attend locally organised and national training appropriate to the work role. 3.Professional: 3.1.Take personal (unprompted) responsibility for achieving agreed clinical activity relating to the number of therapy contact hours and management / supervision contacts delivered per week. 3.2.To ensure that other CWPs achieve their agreed clinical activity targets. 3.3.To develop an area of interest, to the level whereby the post-holder could become a resource of information for the whole service. 3.4.Adhere to the policies and procedures of Sunderland Counselling Service and STSFT NHS Foundation Trust. 3.5.Maintain appropriate clinical records in keeping with service operational policy. 3.6.Participate in setting and review of objectives for the post on an annual basis. 3.7.Participate in activities of continuing professional development (CPD) on an annual basis. 3.8.Attend professional meetings as appropriate. 3.9.Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times. 3.10.Exercise personal responsibility for the systematic clinical governance of your own professional practice. 3.11.Proactively take responsibility for attending supervision, case management and line management regularly, participate in objective setting, performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives. 3.12.Promote and contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy therapeutic culture within the service amongst colleagues and service users. 3.13.Liaise with referrers and others involved ensuring patients psychological needs and therapy outcome are communicated, by using written, oral, and electronic means. 3.14.To provide, with support and direction from senior staff, effective, time limited innovative community interventions (including individual, family and group work) relevant to the vulnerable population. 3.15.To keep up to date with the research literature and practice guidance in relation to Child and Adolescent Mental Health, service policies and procedures. 3.16.To contribute to service delivery, audit, policy service development and research activities. 3.17.To undertake any other duties as requested by line manager. 4.Management: 4.1.With support of SCS Senior Counsellor, STSFT Clinical Team Managers and Clinical Lead, provide case management for CWPs / low intensity workers and trainee CWPs / low intensity trainees employed by both Sunderland Counselling Service and STSFT NHS FT. 4.2.Ensure that CWPs achieve appropriate targets in terms of weekly clinical activity, number of contacts per week, case load etc. 4.3.Ensure that CWPs maintain appropriate clinical records in keeping with service operational policy. 4.4.Ensure that CWPs maintain outcome data as per service operational policy. 4.5.Ensure that CWPs participate in setting and review of objectives for their post on an annual basis. 4.6.Ensure that CWPs participate in activities of continuing professional development (CPD) on an annual basis. 4.7.Participate in audits of clinical activity and evaluative research as required. 4.8.To offer regular line management to the social prescribers 4.9.To work with support of SCS Senior Counsellor, STSFT Clinical Team Managers and Clinical Lead, to develop and lead on the social prescriber project. 5.GENERAL 5.1.To contribute to the development of best practice within the service. 5.2.To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. 5.3.All
